A small floor plan doesn't have to hold you back from creating the farmhouse-style kitchen of your dreams. A farmhouse should be a place that should provide a space needed to create delicious food whilst entertaining and mingling with friends and family. The farmhouse style originated out of necessity, not as a deliberate response to other dominating styles.
MODERN HOME
Modern design was born in response to architecture in the late 19th century. Modernist architects at the time wanted to break the rules and challenge what was considered traditional design, which included styles such as eclectic, Victorian, Edwardian, and 1920s Art deco. Modern architects decided to create a house that would not have decoration and zest, unlike what could be seen in the most popular house designs of the time. They design homes with large open floor plans, deliberate asymmetries, and powerful horizontal configurations with large rooms with stained glass windows or glass walls. The focus here is on creating a simple home with an emphasis on functionality.
The architect prefers to use his designs as tools to respond to the rapid changes in the world. The early 20th century rapidly evolved into a technology-oriented mass industrial society. Many of these architects and designers believed that people in society will achieve more but be less developed emotionally and less spiritually or creatively. Many of the homes they designed at that time were not only built to reflect the changing times, but also to feel house owners feel more connected to nature. As a result, many of these homes are designed to blur the lines between inside and outside. They used the surrounding area to enhance the features of home, using the lines of the landscape around the home.
Many of these homes may seem cold or rustic at first glance due to their lack of crisp lines and feel, but many modern homes are actually very warm and inviting you once you enter the home. This may mainly due to the materials used in the construction and interior design of the home.
CONTEMPORARY HOME
In contrast, modern architecture is rooted in the “now”. This means, that most of these types of houses are innovative and futuristic. However, the construction of these houses is much more complex than that of modern houses. Their designs are free-form, and artistic, and can produce all kinds of designs that do not respond to time. This house design didn’t really gain attraction until the 1970s, but it is important to remember that architecture didn’t originate from any particular movement or be associated with any particular time, it's fluid and constantly changing, and it's gaining popularity today.
At first, it is difficult to distinguish between the two house designs because contemporary homes can showcase features of contemporary architecture. The most amazing thing is that the architecture of modern houses is influenced by styles that appeared earlier. For eg:- today’s modern homes rely heavily on craftsman-style exterior architecture but prefer the large, spacious open floor plans found in modern homes. No other style dominates contemporary homes. On the other hand, a modern architect can create a home that suits the requirements or style of the client at the time without following certain design steps or restrictions.
A striking feature of newly built modern homes is that they are designed with sustainability in mind, are generally environment-friendly, energy-efficient, and often use recycled materials such as (homes made out of shipping containers). Another stand-out feature is that they are often built to act as a mixed-use spaces. The materials used to build the house are locally sourced and environmentally friendly. The architects have included solar panels for heating and cooling, as well as a range of premium environmental features, to make the home more energy-efficient.in addition to that, they designed a garden area to build around an exterior portion of the home that they use as an outdoor movie theatre.
Mid-century and modern styles are very popular today and inspire many architects and interior designers at the moment.
